Nigerien judoka prepares for Rio 2016 with high determination

In preparations for the Rio De Janeiro Olympics in August,Ahmed Goumar, a judoka in Niger is fighting the lapse of time to hold into his dreams of being a superstar.

Ahmed is practising to strengthen his skills in Judoka at Kimacademie, a local training center in Niamey.

Despite being the month of Ramadan, he practices often to fulfill his dream of winning at least a medal at the Games.

“I’m aiming at winning a medal. The fact is that we’ve been waiting for over 40 years. This time we are giving it a try and at the same time pray to God to give us the best chance,” said Ahmed.

Ahmed Goumar earned a continental quota spot from the African region as Niger’s top-ranked judoka outside of direct qualifying position in the World Ranking List of 2016.

He attests to insufficient training facilities in Liberia compared to other countries and continents but that does not deter him from attain his dreams.

“The training facilities are not the same and that is true. Europe is not the same as Africa and Asia is also not the same as Africa. But when we are subjected to compete for medals, its our determination that will lead us.”

Ahmed had qualified for the men’s lightweight category of 73 kg at the Games.

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio is scheduled to begin from August 5 .
